Sum 41

Alt. Rock/ Pop Punk/ Emo
I finally downloaded this album off Soulseek a couple of months ago, and it’s become one of my favorite Sum 41 albums ever since. I’ve loved Sum 41 since I turned 14 — around 7 years ago (Fuck I feel old). Their first album is fun, but I’ve always preferred the darker direction they started taking with DTLI? and Chuck. I think the negative reception this album got around its release kind of turned me off from listening to it, but now that I have, I honestly don't really understand the criticism. It’s a huge step up from Underclass Hero (even though I love that album to death). the guitars are heavier, the lyrics are darker, and deryck sounds wrecked in the best way.
The album has such a nice flow to it — each track fades perfectly into the next, not in a forced way, but like they were all part of the same thought spiraling out. It’s chaotic and melodic and feels really intentional. The only song that's kind of shitty is Baby You Don’t Wanna Know — it just doesn’t work. It’s kind of a throwaway track (same goes for Time For You to Go but to a lesser extent). I deleted it from my iPod after one or two listens. The album just works better without it. Other than that I love this album, it makes me feel such a wide range of emotions and for that it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Somewhere City

Out at the train tracks I dream of escape
But a song comes onto my iPod
And I realize it's getting late

I can't take the staring and the sympathy
And I don't like the questions,
"How do you feel?"
"How's it going in school?"
"Do you wanna talk about it?"

Way out, way out of here
Fade out,
Fade out, vanish

I wish there were more cartoons that dealt with themes like depression and other adult stuff. Can only re-watch Bojack Horseman so many times before being able to recite every line. :/
